Tangshan Locomotive Works

The Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works was established in 1880. It is China’s first railway factory, the birthplace of China’s first steam locomotive, and currently the only manufacturer of steam locomotives in the country. There are currently four workshops: 1. Boiler Workshop. 2. Machine Shop I, which mainly produces major components of steam locomotives. 3. Machine Shop II, which mainly produces minor components of steam locomotives. 4. Assembly Workshop.

In recent years, the factory has supplied various types of main passenger cars for China’s four major railway speed increases. It has also successively developed and produced the country’s first double-decker diesel multiple unit, the country’s first second-class carriage of a 200 km/h high-speed multiple unit, and the country’s first tilting passenger car, among other new products. Tilting trains can increase curve-passing speeds by about 30%, making them an ideal model for increasing speeds on existing railway lines in China.
