Luotuo Island is a sandy islet in the Bohai Bay southwest of Leting County, with a land area of 10.5 square kilometers, named for its resemblance to a crescent moon. Located 4.8 kilometers from the mainland shore, it boasts excellent seclusion. The island is covered in thickets, with wildflowers and fruits releasing subtle scents. Its near-pristine natural environment remains largely undisturbed and unspoiled by humans, keeping its ecological landscape in its original state. Hundreds of bird species inhabit and breed here in the thousands. Seagulls soar across the blue sky, wild ducks stroll along the water’s surface, white-tailed sea eagles glide with arrogance, while egrets—both white and black—move about leisurely. It’s truly a scene of “vast azure waters, birds singing as they fly, fragrant grasses and wildflowers bordering sparse woods, and winding paths connecting quaint wooden pavilions.” Luotuo Island has a strong Dutch flair and is currently developing an exotic eco-tourism resort center.

Luotuo Island is situated in the Bohai Bay arm southwest of Leting County, Tangshan City, 4.8 kilometers from the mainland. It is one of the most renowned eco-tourism resorts in northern China’s coastal waters, also known as the Green Island or Happy Island. Together with Golden Sand Island, Bodhi Island, and others, it forms an extensive coastal tourism chain stretching from Shanhaiguan in the east, through Beidaihe and Golden Coast in the south, all the way to Caofeidian in the west. Among this golden chain of scenic spots, Luotuo Island shines as the brightest jewel. The island earned its name from its crescent shape and consists of seven elongated islets—Luotuo, Yaotuo, Shetuo, Xituo, and others—that form an intermittent chain surrounded by sea. With its pristine ecology, the island is famed for its serene, wild, mysterious, tranquil, and unique scenery.

The architecture on Luotuo Island is designed in a Dutch-style theme. Red-roofed wooden cottages, also known as couples’ houses, are perched above the beach. Being there with your loved one, listening to the tide rise and fall, adds a special touch of romance. The island’s beaches feature clean sand and clear water, perfect for sea bathing. There are also recreational activities such as beach soccer and a planned horseback riding field. Various group activities let visitors experience outdoor living, including seafood barbecues, whole lamb roasts, bonfire parties, and coastal fishing adventures. It’s a great spot for summer retreats, vacations, scientific study trips, spring outings, and birdwatching.
