Former Site of the Third-Front Rocket Artillery General Assembly Plant

The Former Site of the Third-Front Rocket Artillery General Assembly Plant is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

As the main architectural complex for the production and assembly of the 107mm rocket artillery weapons, the Former Site of the Third-Front Rocket Artillery General Assembly Plant witnessed the birth and development of China's rocket artillery weaponry. It carries the people's arms industry spirit of "devoting everything to the Party" among weapons engineers and the dream of strengthening the military and serving the nation. The buildings and early development history possess typical historical features of Third-Front construction, fully demonstrating the layout characteristics of being "built against mountains, concealed, and dispersed." The structures were built along the mountain, featuring red machine-made brick walls with exposed brick and wooden trusses. The overall layout and main functional spaces of the buildings remain intact, and the surrounding area largely preserves the historical features from the plant’s early establishment.

Previously, Jiangshan Heavy Industry Group has carried out related preservation efforts, developing protection plans and implementing registration, cataloging, and signage for key protected buildings, equipment, documents, items, and historical materials. The group has also invested substantial funds to upgrade water and electricity systems, renovate roads and factory buildings, and improve the environment in the old plant area. Moving forward, Jiangshan Heavy Industry Group will continue to protect the Former Site of the Rocket Artillery General Assembly Plant. While ensuring the integrity and authenticity of the site are not compromised, the group will proceed with development and utilization efforts, fully leveraging its role as a military culture education base, and gradually establish it as a “red landmark” in northwestern Hubei and even across the nation.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Site of the Third-Front Rocket Artillery General Assembly Plant was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
