At 2:00 PM on July 3, Beijing time, the "2013 First China Yingkou Minghu Lake Cycling Race," themed "Win in Yingkou, Create Cycling Legends," was officially launched at the Laoshan Velodrome of the General Administration of Sport of China. According to the organizing committee, the event will be held at the Minghu Lake Square in Yingkou, Liaoning—the largest cultural square in Asia. The race is jointly organized by the Cycling and Fencing Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Liaoning Provincial Sports Bureau, and the Yingkou Municipal People's Government, and hosted by the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base Management Committee, the Yingkou Municipal Sports Bureau, and Shanshui Minghe (Beijing) Sports Culture Communication Co., Ltd. Attendees included Wang Xuanqing, Party Committee Secretary of the Cycling and Fencing Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China; Han Jiling, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Cycling Association; Cui Fenglin, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yingkou Municipal People's Government; and Cao Yuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base Management Committee.
During the conference, the organizing committee introduced the basic details of the "2013 First China Yingkou Minghu Lake Cycling Race." As a national-level professional cycling event, the race will feature four categories: a 40-kilometer individual time trial for professionals, a 90-kilometer urban circuit race for professionals, an 80-kilometer urban circuit race for amateurs, and a public welfare ride. The total prize pool will amount to 150,000 RMB. Registration for the event will be available through various channels including online and phone registration. The organizing committee has also expanded offline registration points across the country, with most cycling clubs and sports clubs nationwide serving as designated offline partners. This initiative aims to encourage more cycling enthusiasts to participate.
Cao Yuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base Management Committee, stated at the press conference that the base was approved for development and construction by the provincial government in 2006. It marks a historic turning point for Yingkou as it pivots from the Liao River era to the Bohai Sea era. With the goal of promoting regional cultural and sports development and creating a new cultural and sports identity, the base is fully committed to organizing the "2013 First China Yingkou Minghu Lake Cycling Race." This event is a significant move by Yingkou City, based on local conditions and thorough assessments of provincial, municipal, and public sentiments, to actively support the 2013 National Games' theme of "National Fitness, Sharing the Games." The city aims to develop this race into the most refined lake cycling event in Northeast China while promoting the green and public welfare aspects of cycling.
The organizing committee also invited film and television star Yang Tongshu to serve as the event’s ambassador, who will participate in the "2013 First China Yingkou Minghu Lake Cycling Race" as the leader of the charity lead ride, heading up the "One Kilometer for Love" cycling activity. With sincerity, Yang Tongshu called on the public to join this green, healthy, environmentally friendly, and charitable event, cheering for the race and helping to establish a positive image for cycling. This also marked the official launch of a local youth cycling fund in Yingkou, aimed at developing youth cycling in the area and creating a dedicated space for young cycling enthusiasts. Experienced cyclists will also serve as mentors for the children—cycling begins with public welfare and rides toward the future.
As the press conference drew to a close, relevant leaders of the organizing committee and event ambassador Yang Tongshu jointly launched the "One Kilometer for Love" 10,000-person cycling declaration ceremony. Following the event, 10 copies of the declaration booklet will be officially distributed to 10 registration points across Liaoning Province, and the preparations for the race have now entered the final sprint phase.
By incorporating fresh elements such as "public welfare" and "celebrity-led charity rides," the event fully ignites public enthusiasm for cycling. It calls on outstanding cyclists from across the country to make friends through cycling and compete for a good cause. By highlighting the cultural heritage and spirit of the city, the race connects the vitality of sports with the city’s image and people’s daily lives, showcasing the new image and outlook of the Liaoning (Yingkou) Coastal Industrial Base.
