"Yutian County was historically known as Wuzhong County, established during the Qin Dynasty. To the north of the county lies Wuzhong Mountain. Legend has it that the mountain was named Malishan due to its dark, jagged, and irregularly scattered rocks against the brown mountain body. Yang Boyong, known for his deep filial piety, buried his parents on Wuzhong Mountain after their passing and settled there. The mountain is eighty li high and lacks water at the summit. Yang drew water and offered free drinks to travelers at the ridge. After three years, a man came to drink and gave Yang a dou (an ancient measuring unit) of stones, instructing him to plant them in fertile, flat land, saying that jade would grow there. Then the man disappeared. Yang planted the stones, and after several years, he harvested jade. He then erected four large stone pillars at the four corners of the jade-planting site, and the one-square-li area in the center was named Yutian (Jade Field). In the year 696 AD, Empress Wu Zetian of the Zhou Dynasty renamed Wuzhong as Yutian."

Both Malishan Temple and Malishan Mountain are well-known scenic spots in Yutian. From the county town, take Bus No. 5 and get off at Liudiantun, then walk about five minutes east to reach Malishan Temple. The temple is situated against Malishan Mountain, and at the mountaintop is a stone stele marking the ancient site where jade was planted.

Malishan Mountain is not high, and the mountain path is flat, making it very suitable for elderly people and children to hike and enjoy the scenery in spring and autumn.
