Situated on the banks of the Han River, Xiangyang City Wall Park encircles the 2,800-year-old ancient city wall of Xiangyang (the “Ironclad Ancient City Wall” is largely well-preserved, with an average height of 8.5 meters, a width of 5–15 meters, and a total length of 7,322 meters—majestic and spectacular), and is built around the Xiangyang Moat, known as the “Number One City Moat in China” (with an average width of 180 meters, it is the widest ancient artificial moat in the country). The park consists of four major scenic areas: Changchun, Wenhui, Xianqiu, and Anhe. It encompasses historic sites such as the ruins of Xun Guanniang’s leap from the city wall during the Jin Dynasty, Wangxian Tower, and the Five Heroes Pavilion. It is a large comprehensive park that integrates historical landmarks, garden artistry, land and water recreation, animal viewing, and aquaculture.

The gardens and scenic spots under its management are interconnected, forming a distinctive ring-shaped scenic belt around the city. Covering a total area of 1,479 mu, with over 800 mu of water surface, more than 9,000 trees, and over 120 types of plants, the park has a green space ratio of 72%. From east to west, the areas are as follows: the Changchun Scenic Area (Xiangyang Park) features shady trees, the fragrant aroma of osmanthus, ripples created by boats on the lake, and entertaining sea lion performances at the zoo. Swings, slides, wooden horses, and merry-go-rounds... bring back faded childhood memories. Strolling along the rustic wooden boardwalk of the Ancient City Sightseeing Belt, you’ll find tall fir forests on one side and the calm moat waters on the other. Gazing into the distance, the water and sky blend into one; up close, shimmering reflections dance on the surface—an atmosphere all its own. The Wenhui Garden boasts emerald ponds with red fish, pink lotuses with green leaves, green walls framed by bamboo shadows, the Mirror Pavilion reflected on the water, and winding stone paths—all creating the illusion of being in a Jiangnan water town, making it a rare oasis of elegance in the bustling city. The South Lake Square is bright and open, with a distinctive style and an air of grandeur. At sunset, you might see men practicing sword dances, women engaging in graceful fitness routines, elders leisurely sipping tea, and children playing and laughing—a recreational spot suitable for all ages. Along the banks of the West Moat, willows sway gently, slopes are covered with lush green lawns, the water is clear and the breeze fresh. The hustle and bustle of the city is just a street away from tranquility.

With the ancient city standing tall, lakes encircling it, lush greenery, tiered towers, pavilions and bridges layered in verdant hues, the natural and cultural landscapes complement each other beautifully, while traditional and modern cultures blend seamlessly. The rich vegetation, beautiful scenery, and expansive water bodies of Xiangyang City Wall Park play a vital role in wind prevention, water storage, and temperature regulation for the urban area of Xiangyang. It has become an indispensable part of people’s leisure and fitness activities, and experts have likened it to the “green heart and lungs” of Xiangyang.
