Xiangyang Tang City Scenic Area (Xiangyang Tang City Film and Television Base) is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Also known as Xiangyang Tang City Film and Television Base, China Tang City is a cultural industry park in Xiangyang invested and constructed by Xiangyang Zhigu Culture Development Co., Ltd. Located in the scenic Linjiang area of Xian Mountain, rich in cultural heritage and blessed with beautiful natural scenery, it borders the Han River to the east, overlooks Lumen to the south, leans against Xian Mountain to the west, and connects to the ancient city to the north. Leveraging the profound historical and cultural foundation of Xiangyang’s 2,800-year-old establishment, the scenic area integrates a wealth of representative Xiangyang cultural elements such as Xian Mountain, the Han River, Meng Haoran, and Xijia Pond, establishing itself as a unique cultural highland embodying Xian Mountain culture, Han River culture, poetry culture, historical culture, religious culture, and archaeological culture. It offers visitors an ultimate journey themed “A Spring Dream, the Romantic Tang City.”

China Tang City serves both as a film and television shooting base and a national tourist destination. The scenic area is planned and constructed according to the standards of a national 5A-level tourist attraction. It will soon premiere the historical epic film The Legend of the Demon Cat, a China-Japan-US co-production directed by internationally renowned director Chen Kaige. The project consists of two parts: Tang City and -Street, covering a total area of 600 acres with a planned investment of 906 million yuan and an actual investment of nearly 1.3 billion yuan. It is divided into five major zones: city gates, palaces, streets, mansions, and temples, featuring eight grand Tang Dynasty architectural structures including the Imperial Palace, Mingde Gate, Thousand-Step Corridor, East Market, West Market, and Qinglong Temple.

Upon completion, the Tang City Film and Television Base will become the largest “Tang Dynasty ancient city” in China to date, recreating the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty. The first phase is currently open to the public. The second phase, the Meng Haoran Cultural Tourism Area, covers an area of over 1,700 acres with a planned total investment of 1.35 billion yuan, mainly including attractions such as Xianshou Mountain Scenic Area, Haoran Thatched Cottage, Huihu Water Town, Millennium Poetry Road, and Cliff Poetry Inscriptions. The third phase, the Han River Ballad Cultural Tourism Area, emphasizes three main functions: film and television shooting, cultural tourism, and eco-tourism. It is planned to cover approximately 3,250 acres with a total investment of 4.43 billion yuan, primarily featuring film and television cultural and ecological tourism attractions such as Ming-Qing Imperial City, Xiangwang Mansion, Oriental Pearl, Hanjiang Grand Theater, and Hanjiang Wetland Park.

Tang City is divided into five major zones: city gates, palaces, streets, mansions, and temples, featuring eight grand Tang Dynasty architectural structures including the Imperial Palace, Mingde Gate, Thousand-Step Corridor, East Market, West Market, and Qinglong Temple, offering visitors a dreamlike journey themed “A Spring Dream, the Romantic Tang City.”

Mingde Gate has five gateways: the two end gates are for vehicles and horses; the next two are for pedestrians; and the central gate is the imperial passage, exclusively for the emperor and also the mandatory route for the Son of Heaven during sacrificial ceremonies. As you stroll through Mingde Gate and pass through its gates, you can sense the solemnity and majesty of sacrificial culture, as if transported through time, engaging in a dialogue across history.

The Imperial Palace combines the architectural styles of the Tang Dynasty’s Taiji Palace, Daming Palace, and Xingqing Palace. Entering the imperial city from the southern gate, with the Hall of Ring as the center, the Xuanzheng Hall, Qinzhen Tower, Chenxiang Pavilion, Flower Calyx Mutual Glow Tower, and Imperial Garden complement one another, while the Qinglong Tower and Baihu Tower stand facing each other, showcasing the Tang Dynasty culture’s inclusiveness, profoundness, and richness—making you feel as though you’ve stepped back a thousand years upon entering the city.

The Thousand-Step Corridor was the office space for the ancient Six Ministries, Five Departments, and military affairs. With civil officials on the eastern corridor and military officials on the western side, this layout enriches the grand and open perspective of the architecture. Walking through it allows you to experience the shifting tides of officialdom culture over the centuries.

In the Tang Dynasty, the East and West Markets were among the world’s leading commercial centers and the starting points of the world-famous Silk Road. Bustling with shops and vibrant with activity, the East and West Markets vividly recreate the daily life of the time, offering visitors a delightful place to explore.

-Street is a Tang-style ancient cultural and leisure pedestrian street, a romantic night city surrounded by waterways. It features specialty dining, themed hotels, tourist merchandise, bars, teahouses, and more, providing comprehensive, high-quality services for food, shopping, and entertainment. It is a club where celebrities gather and a hub for public leisure.

Once a place of prosperity and willow-lined charm, today it is the Qu-Yue Tower. The Hu Yue Tower represents the romantic haunts of Tang Dynasty literati, showcasing the romantic lifestyle of the era. With interactive features such as embroidered boats and the poem “Bring in the Wine,” it is a picturesque spot to appreciate poetic elegance.

Ximing Temple was a royal temple of the Tang Dynasty and the largest temple of its time, constructed under the supervision of the eminent monk Xuanzang. Xiangyang Tang City’s Ximing Temple replicates a section of the original, featuring uniquely placed strange rocks, elegant trees, bronze bells, and ancient pagodas, all in a simple and rustic style. The temple peonies were once celebrated with the verse “Serving as an incense official, I witnessed the peonies bloom thrice,” allowing you to admire the beauty of the Ximing Temple peonies as described by many Tang poets.

The front courtyard of Qinglong Temple boasts the grandeur and luxury of an imperial monastery, while the back mountain offers the rustic charm of forest seclusion by the water. The temple includes halls, stupas, and lofty pavilions. It houses numerous Tang Dynasty Esoteric Buddhist statues and murals, presenting a scene reminiscent of a Buddhist paradise. Pilgrims and visitors can offer incense, worship, and pray devoutly here.

Gao Lishi is hailed as “the greatest eunuch of all time.” The residence of Gao Lishi in Tang City also serves as a modern museum of ancient Chinese eunuch culture. The residence is equipped with historical books from the Tang Dynasty for visitors to read, offering a fresh perspective and deeper understanding of this unique and thought-provoking culture.

The residence of Chen Yunqiao, also known as Jian Nan Villa, is a place of secluded retreat and meditation, featuring a relatively independent garden-style courtyard. Stone forests rise before the gate, while pools, springs, and corridors surround the yard—elegant, serene, and tranquil. Here, one can return to oneself amid simplicity and enjoy peaceful solitude. The unique architectural form of Chen Yunqiao’s residence embodies the aesthetics of Eastern architecture, leaving visitors in awe.

Boating in Tang City, you’ll see the city built along the water, with the water flowing around the city. The clear waters mirror the landscape, and the mountains create a painting-like scene. Beneath the surface lies a rich and diverse ecosystem of aquatic life, forming a mysterious and spectacular “underwater forest.” Green as jade, bright as crystal. The clean water and lively fish create a particularly dynamic scene, resembling an emerald ribbon.
