Caofeidian Industrial Zone

Located on the southern coast of Tangshan City, Caofeidian was originally a long, narrow sandbar stretching from northeast to southwest, formed by the alluvial deposits of the ancient Luan River as it flowed into the sea. With a history of over 5,500 years, it got its name from the Temple of Lady Cao that once stood on the island. The development and construction of Caofeidian is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Government in response to the national energy and transportation development strategies. It aims to adjust and optimize the layout and industrial structure of heavy chemical industries in northern China, accelerate the integrated economic development of the Bohai Rim region, and lead modern industries toward a circular economy.

Since 1992, preliminary work on the Caofeidian project has been initiated, with cumulative investment exceeding 60 million yuan. Over 50 research outcomes and scientific projects have been completed, and 14 academicians along with more than 3,500 experts and scholars have been engaged in repeated evaluations, discussions, and optimizations, providing a wealth of scientific, detailed evidence and qualitative conclusions for the nation’s informed decision-making. The Caofeidian project has been listed as a “Number One Project” by both Hebei Province and Tangshan City; in October 2005, it was designated as one of the first national pilot industrial parks for developing a circular economy.
