Tangshan Museum is located at the eastern foot of Phoenix Mountain in the city center of Tangshan, within the compound of the Municipal Workers' Cultural Palace. The museum has three departments and one office: the Exhibition Department, the Conservation Department, the Public Engagement Department, and the Office. It has a staff of 22. Tangshan Museum is a comprehensive local museum. Its construction began in early 1996, and it opened to the public during the city government’s large-scale commemorative events for the 20th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake that same year. The total construction area is 3,670 square meters. Two sections are dedicated to thematic exhibitions. The museum is equipped with modern facilities for exhibitions, conservation, and security.

Since its establishment, the museum has collected a large number of cultural relics through surveys, acquisitions, and donations. To date, the collection has grown to include more than 1,300 artifacts, among which 35 are first- or second-class precious relics. These include human fossils of "Late Homo sapiens" dating back about 20,000 years unearthed from the Mengjiayuan site in Yutian; the ivory of a Stegodon zdanskyi and bone needles and awls used for sewing clothes in the late Paleolithic Age, dating back over 40,000 years, excavated from the Zhacun site in Qian’an; the “Qi Gui” and “Bu Ding” from the Machao Village in Qian’an, which have close ties to the ancient Guzhu State; as well as Liao Dynasty white porcelain unearthed in Qian’an, considered fine examples of ancient ceramics.

Upon its opening to the public, Tangshan Museum launched its flagship permanent exhibition, “The Ancient Civilization of Tangshan.” This exhibition systematically presents the historical development of Tangshan through four sections—stone tools, pottery, bronzeware, and porcelain—highlighting the significant contributions made by the people of Tangshan in shaping history.

In addition to its core exhibitions, the museum organizes over ten exhibitions annually in alignment with the central tasks of the Party, welcoming an average of more than 100,000 visitors per year.
