The Tangshan Earthquake Resistance Memorial Hall is a patriotic education base.

The Tangshan Earthquake Resistance Memorial Hall is located in the Earthquake Resistance Monument Square in the center of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. It was first built in 1986 under the original name “Tangshan Earthquake Data Exhibition Hall.” In 1996, it underwent renovation and expansion and was renamed the “Tangshan Earthquake Resistance Memorial Hall.” In 2006, on the 30th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake, another large-scale exhibition adjustment and transformation were carried out. The current permanent exhibition is the “Tangshan Achievements Exhibition.”

The memorial hall covers a land area of 3,500 square meters, with a building area of 7,700 square meters and an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters. The exhibition line stretches 620 linear meters. It adopts various high-tech display methods including photographs, physical objects, dioramas, and multimedia, combining sound, light, and electricity to reflect the modern atmosphere of a new-style exhibition venue.

The exhibition includes a total of 21 landscape models and artworks, 6 plasma TVs, 4 electronic touch screens, and over 50 sets of physical exhibits in 3 major categories, along with more than 400 photos, 12 static charts, 14 light-electric charts, and 31 text panels. Three large bronze relief sculptures depict Tangshan’s past, present, and future; a large-scale platform model intuitively presents Tangshan’s terrain, landforms, and administrative divisions; an earthquake science film provides an immersive experience while imparting knowledge about earthquakes. The exhibition is divided into a prelude and nine sections. On one hand, following the principles of highlighting key points, showcasing characteristics, and presenting highlights, it fully displays the remarkable achievements made by the people of Tangshan in promoting the spirit of earthquake resistance and building a prosperous and beautiful new Tangshan over the past 34 years, especially in the last decade. On the other hand, adhering to the principles of seeking truth from facts, respecting history, and believing in science, it delves deeply into historical materials and expands the exhibition content on historical evolution, earthquake relief, and earthquake prevention and disaster reduction. The exhibition fully embodies the themes of reflecting on the entrepreneurial journey, paying tribute to the victims, remembering the support from all quarters, educating future generations, and inspiring the people of the city to strive for building a new Tangshan with economic development and social harmony.
