Shijiu Tuo Island

Located 40 kilometers from the county town and 12 nautical miles by water from Jingtang Port, it includes three islands—Puti Island, Yuetao, and Danagang—as well as the surrounding beaches.

The island enjoys a pleasant climate, characterized by a warm temperate coastal semi-humid monsoon climate. Summers are not excessively hot, with an average July temperature of 24.2°C, 0.2°C lower than that of Qinhuangdao. Influenced by sea and land breezes, high temperatures are often quickly replaced by cooling sea winds, making it very suitable for summer retreats.

Coastal Bird Watching: The main bird-watching location is on Shijiu Tuo Island. The island is situated at the intersection of the Northeast and North China animal geographical regions and serves as a key migratory hub for birds traveling between Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, Siberia, Korea, Japan, and southern regions. The area features vast tidal flats, dense vegetation, abundant food sources, and minimal human disturbance, creating ideal conditions for bird habitation and breeding. A total of 408 bird species from 56 families and 19 orders have been recorded on the island, tidal flats, and surrounding waters, including 379 migratory species and 29 resident species. Among them, 12 are classified as Class I nationally protected birds, such as the short-tailed albatross, white stork, black stork, white-shouldered eagle, oriental stork, and Saunders’s gull; there are also 49 Class II nationally protected bird species.
