Former Site of He Long's Military Headquarters in Ezhou

The former site of He Long's military headquarters in Ezhou is a cultural relics protection unit of Ezhou City, a classic red tourism destination, and a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The former site of He Long's military headquarters served as the command center during He Long’s tenure as division commander stationed in Echeng and later as army commander. In March 1927, He Long moved into Echeng; in July of the same year, he departed from this location to Nanchang to participate in and lead the Nanchang Uprising. During his time in Echeng, He Long actively promoted the workers’ and peasants’ revolutionary movement.

This site is the only well-preserved and historically documented military headquarters of He Long from the Northern Expedition period. In 2008, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit by the provincial government. In 2013, Ezhou Municipality allocated 2 million yuan for comprehensive conservation and restoration of the site. By the end of 2014, the restoration project passed the acceptance inspection by an expert panel from the Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau.

To develop the site into a base for patriotic education, national defense education, and a red tourism attraction, the exhibition arrangement at the former site of He Long's military headquarters commenced at the end of last year. The display is divided into five sections: Rural Youth with Lofty Ideals; Joining the Revolution, Resounding Across Hunan and Hubei; A Northern Expedition Hero, Invincible Everywhere; Stationed in Echeng, Innovating and Reforming; and Appointed to Command, the Nanchang Uprising. It narrates the key revolutionary activities of He Long from the uprising in Sangzhi to the Nanchang Uprising, and particularly highlights the history of his revolutionary work during his time in Echeng.
