Xuwang Mining and Metallurgy Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Ezhou City.

Introduction to Xuwang Mining and Metallurgy Site

An ancient site from the Song Dynasty, located in the southwestern mountain valley of Xuwangwan, Zhangtie Village, Tingzu Town, Ezhou City. The site covers an area of about 1,000 square meters and was discovered during an archaeological survey in 1985. So far, no mine shafts or smelting furnace remains have been found. Artifacts are scattered around the site. Based on collected samples, they include pottery, porcelain, and more. Pottery items include glazed pottery jars and four-handled pots used as daily utensils, as well as building materials such as roof tiles. Porcelain items include bowls. Currently, the ground of the site (formerly known as Lujijingwan in Zhangtie Village) grows copper ore grass, and the surrounding area is scattered with reddish-brown iron ore powder, slag, and small amounts of malachite. The site is well-preserved. The entire area behind Xuwangwan is designated as the protected zone, with a 100-meter buffer extending outward from the site’s edge as a controlled zone. On November 4, 2003, it was announced by the municipal government as a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Tingzu Town: A town under the Echeng District of Ezhou City. It was known as Tongzao Township in 1949, Shiqiao Township in 1955, renamed to Tingzu Commune in 1958, then Shiqiao Commune in 1961, reverted to Tingzu Commune in 1975, and established as a town in 1984. Covering an area of 78 square kilometers with a population of 52,000, it is traversed by the Yihuang First-Class Highway.
