Revolutionary Site at No. 18 Qingyang Lane

The Revolutionary Site at No. 18 Qingyang Lane is a cultural heritage site protected by Shashi District and a classic destination for red tourism.

The Revolutionary Site at No. 18 Qingyang Lane is located on the eastern side of the northern section of Qingyang Lane in Shashi District. The site was originally the private residence of Zheng Jing, an underground member of the Chinese Communist Party. In the early days of the War of Resistance against Japan, the underground Party organization in Shashi held a training class for Party members here, with Wang Ganqing serving as an instructor.

Wang actively promoted the Party’s anti-Japanese policies and organized students to give speeches and perform plays on the streets, such as “Put Down Your Whip,” which played a significant role in carrying out anti-Japanese salvation activities in the Shashi area. At that time, a sign reading “Shashi War Zone Cultural Service Office” was once publicly hung at the entrance of the house, and events such as the commemoration of the first anniversary of Lu Xun’s death were also held there. The training program also supplied a group of armed cadres for the anti-Japanese guerrilla forces in the Sanhu area, which were led by the Jiangling County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party at the time. The building was originally of brick-and-wood structure but was later rebuilt into a two-story wooden structure after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 1966, the Shashi Municipal Government approved the installation of a commemorative plaque at the entrance for protection purposes. It is now privately owned by a resident.
