With dark skin, a tall and slender build, and a knack for spouting famous quotes, he is a double champion in both singles and doubles badminton at Changsha No. 1 High School and has passed Grade 10 in piano; he claims to have many strengths but also says, "Heroes are always modest" — such a "cocky" child is actually considered by his homeroom teacher, Zhou Zis?, to be one of the most well-rounded and pleasant students: "He is well-developed, pays attention to current affairs, and has a very amiable personality."
This child is Wu Jinfu from Changsha No. 1 High School. As a student recommended for admission by the president of Renmin University of China, his college entrance exam score of 626 guaranteed his entry into Renmin University.
"I just rode my bike here from Hunan Broadcasting System; it took me thirty minutes. I also rode home from school this morning." Such rides are completely normal for Wu Jinfu. In his second year of high school, Wu founded a cycling club and would often go out for rides with fellow cyclists. His love for cycling stems from an 18-day cycling trip during the summer after his first year of high school.
In 2011, Wu Jinfu and his father set off from Hunan, enduring 18 tough days of cycling, covering a total distance of 4,000 km, including over 1,000 km on bicycles, passing through more than ten cities in Vietnam and Cambodia. Looking back now, Wu Jinfu simply thinks the trip was fun. However, his father had his own intentions behind the journey. "He used to be spoiled, but after going through hardships on the road and seeing certain aspects of society, he realized that everyone has a tough time and things aren’t easy, so he started to cherish his own life more," Mr. Wu said. He took his son on the trip to broaden his horizons and strengthen his willpower. Now, Wu Jinfu is a well-behaved child in his father’s eyes — nothing worries him anymore.
Compared to his classmates, Wu Jinfu doesn’t see himself as the type who studies diligently, nor does he admit to being particularly smart. "I just pay more attention in class and have a relatively high study efficiency."
