Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower in Zhongshan Park

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower in Zhongshan Park is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower in Zhongshan Park is located in the northwest part of Zhongshan Park in the urban area. It is a sword-shaped stone tower structure. The tower has a square column shape, facing south with its back to the north, with an overall height of 115 meters, a base height of 12.90 meters, and stone steps surrounding the tower covering an area of 496 square meters.

The memorial tower was built in 1958 with surplus donations from the people of Shashi during the Korean War, which were originally intended for purchasing aircraft and artillery. The front of the tower is inscribed with the words “Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs” by Zhu De, while the back features the handwriting of Xie Juezai reading “Gather Our Strength to Fulfill the Unfinished Cause of the Martyrs.” The white marble base is engraved on all sides with “Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower” and the “Inscription on the Revolutionary Martyrs' Memorial Tower” written by the Shashi Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. Approximately 50 meters directly south of the tower stands Liberation Pavilion, which was reconstructed from the former “Chungcheng Pavilion.” The pathway between the pavilion and the tower is paved with red concrete prefabricated blocks, symbolizing marching forward on the bloodstains of the martyrs. The area around the tower is planted with pine trees, cypresses, red plum blossoms, and cedar trees, symbolizing the everlasting spirit of the martyrs.
