Shangmin Square

Located on the north bank of the Beihe River and east of the Beihe Bridge, the square features bronze statues of ten renowned ancient Chinese Confucian scholars, all facing toward Huimin Square to symbolize reverence for the people—hence the name “Shangmin” (Respect for the People). The southern end of the square connects to Yiqi Island. Yiqi Island is a natural islet in the Beihe River, home to structures such as the Memorial Hall of Bo Yi and Shu Qi, a teahouse, pavilions, and covered walkways. Shangmin Square and Yiqi Island serve as educational bases for traditional Chinese culture.
