Shiling Village Stone Buddha Temple, located in the center of Shiling Village, Xixiaying Manchu Township, Zunhua City, Hebei Province, was renovated during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era (online research of the renovation stele cites military officer Zhu Song as a historical reference: Zhu Song and Cai Yuanding were honored in the rites. In the 24th year of Wanli, Zhou Fu, father of philosopher Zhou Dunyi, was also added to the rites, ranked above Cheng Hao). The original construction date is unknown. During the Japanese invasion of China, the Stone Buddha Temple was severely damaged. In July 1966, villagers dug a pit in front of the Buddha and buried the statue. On December 6, 2005, the village committee organized villagers to unearth the stone Buddha and place it back in its original position, erecting a simple shelter to protect it from wind and rain. On November 26, 2006, villagers voluntarily donated funds to restore the Stone Buddha Temple. By 2007, donations from both groups and individuals in Beijing, Shandong, as well as Tangshan City, Langfang City, and the local area had contributed to the restoration. The temple is seven meters long and five meters wide, built with red bricks and gray tiles, featuring a wooden frame structure. It is divided into three sections: two smaller side rooms flanking a larger central room, with four stone steles planted in front. The first stele from the east was made during the Ming Dynasty renovation, while the second, third, and fourth were erected during this restoration, engraved with the record of the temple’s reconstruction and a list of donors and contributors. Inside the temple sits a barefoot stone Buddha with palms turned upward, measuring 230 cm in height, 185 cm in width, and 80 cm in thickness, with a stone offering table placed in front of it. The reconstruction of the Stone Buddha Temple has drawn nearby villagers to come and offer incense and worship.
