Jia Shan Patriotic Education Base

The Jia Shan Patriotic Education Base is located in Xinliuzhuang Village, Tiechang Town, Zunhua City, covering an area of approximately 7 mu with a construction area of 130 square meters. It was established in August 1978. The Jia Shan Martyrs' Monument within Tiechang Town is a key cultural relic protection unit in our city. In 1942, Liu Chengguang, political director of the Jidong Military Sub-district, led the officers and soldiers of the 12th Regiment of the Eighth Route Army. On Jia Shan Mountain within our town, they engaged in a deadly battle against Japanese forces outnumbering them several times over. After a day and night of fierce fighting, they eliminated more than 500 enemies. However, due to being heavily outnumbered, running out of ammunition and supplies, they failed to break through the encirclement. To uphold the heroic spirit of the Chinese nation and vowing never to be captured, they chose collective martyrdom by jumping off the cliff, with an average age of less than 25 years. The martyrs made tremendous contributions to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and the birth of New China. To commemorate the martyrs and honor their spirits, in August 1978, our town built the Jia Shan Martyrs' Monument on Jia Shan (in September 1982, the Jia Shan Martyrs' Monument was listed as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit). Currently, the Jia Shan Martyrs' Cemetery houses the remains of 228 revolutionary martyrs. In 1989, it was designated as a Zunhua County Patriotic Education Base. In 2005, the People's Government of Tiechang Town, Zunhua City, raised 300,000 yuan to rebuild the base. In 2009, it was approved as a Tangshan City Patriotic Education Base. Now, the base includes a martyrs' memorial hall, which displays photo exhibitions of the Jia Shan Battle, video documentaries, hero profiles, and inscriptions from leaders. There is also a martyrs' monument. In 2012, Han Shoujun, chairman of Zhongbang Pump Industry, invested over 2 million yuan to pave a 1,500-meter road leading to Jia Shan and renovated the monument and memorial hall. The memorial hall displays photo exhibitions of the Jia Shan Battle, video documentaries, hero profiles, and inscriptions from leaders. The Jia Shan Martyrs' Cemetery is open to the public.

The base has fully fulfilled its role as a patriotic education site. On occasions such as Tomb-Sweeping Day, Youth Day on May 4th, July 1st, August 1st, and National Day, the Party Committee and government of Tiechang Town organize party members, cadres, youth, students, and the general public to conduct patriotic education activities in front of the monument. They listen to veteran party members recount the history of the Jia Shan Battle, especially playing a significant role during the Advanced Education campaign. The Jia Shan Battle Memorial Hall is open to the public free of charge and receives over 20,000 visitors annually, reaching out to areas such as Fengrun and Qianxi, thereby providing profound patriotic and revolutionary tradition education to a wide range of party members, cadres, and the general public.
