Han Shang Hot Spring Health Park

Located in Xianning City, about 80 kilometers south of Wuhan. Xianning’s hot springs, also known as Boiling Pool, have water temperatures reaching 50°C. The springs emerge from rocky caves, where water gushes against the stone, bubbling and steaming, creating a phenomenon known as “hot spring rainbow reflections.” There are a total of 14 springs here, with the water appearing light yellow and containing over ten types of minerals such as sulfates, carbonates, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, along with other trace elements. Regular bathing can help prevent and treat skin diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, neuritis, ulcers, and colds.

Currently, hotels, hospitals, and numerous hot spring baths have been built along the river. Visitors can enjoy a hot spring bath while sipping osmanthus tea—a truly relaxing experience. Xianning Hot Springs is relatively close to Changsha, connected via the Beijing–Zhuhai Expressway, with a drive time of no more than two hours. Along the way, you can visit attractions such as Zhangguying Ancient Village, Yueyang Tower, Junshan Island, and Chibi. In the depths of winter, head to Chibi, where you can gaze at the Yangtze River amid the biting north wind, recalling the legendary battle where Cao Cao’s naval fleet was set ablaze—an experience that leaves a unique impression. But be sure to dress warmly; otherwise, your subsequent hot spring soak might turn into a real therapeutic necessity. The hot springs are located in downtown Xianning, with many hotels offering related services.

The most famous is Han Shang Hot Spring. After getting off the highway, go straight into the city, make a left at the T-junction, and you can find it just by asking anyone. The hot spring water here is very hot, with an estimated outlet temperature exceeding 80°C, and a strong sulfur smell. Han Shang Hot Spring consists of multiple pools within a closed building—no special chemicals are added, but the water temperature varies between the different pools. The largest one is a standard swimming pool, with both shallow and deep areas, and relatively lower temperatures. Han Shang is a major local commercial group, and the service is quite good—the availability of rental lifebuoys and the cleanliness of towels are commendable, and the prices are also affordable.

Aside from the hot springs, Xianning’s Xingxing Bamboo Sea is also very famous. Xingxing Bamboo Sea is a provincial-level scenic area, located in Wenhua Township of Xianning City, 86 kilometers from Wuhan. The bamboo sea scenic area is the largest bamboo forest park in Hubei Province, with a total bamboo forest area of 100,000 mu and a coverage rate of over 90%, also known as the “Ten-Thousand-Mu Bamboo Sea.” It has been listed as a UN forestry research site. On clear, breezy days or under the bright moonlight, visitors can admire the vast expanse of bamboo groves, creating extremely beautiful scenery.
