Dahuaiting is located on the bank of the Luanhe River, 3 kilometers north of the Baipudian section along the Sanfu Highway. In 1983, due to the Luanhe-to-Tianjin Water Diversion Project, a dam was built to block the river, creating the Luanhe-Yanshan Plain Lake — Dahuaiting Reservoir.

As the saying goes: “Qianxi has three beauties: gold, chestnuts, and water.” The water in Qianxi is clear, gentle, graceful, and uniquely charming, and among it all, the water of Dahuaiting is the most captivating. Here, the water is either calm or dynamic — within the reservoir, the surface is as serene as West Lake but even more enchanting, while below the dam, the water moves like the surging Yellow River, yet its clear waves crashing against the sky have a unique charm. The water here is as clear as that of the Li River, so pristine it can be drunk directly; the vast expanse of misty waters dotted with fishing boats resembles the beauty of Taihu Lake. Surrounded by green mountains with overlapping peaks, the landscape blends mountain and water scenery into a magnificent panorama. Speaking of the mountains, not to mention the General’s Hat Mountain with its lush forests and vegetation coverage of 90%, nor the Camel Dragon Mountain with its green trees and red rooftops stretching along the undulating ridges — just the abundant produce found in the mountains of the reservoir area is enough to make visitors envious: wildflowers and wild vegetables in spring, wild fruits and medicinal herbs in summer, chestnuts and mountain mushrooms in autumn, snow and game in winter, as well as underground treasures such as gold and other minerals, all coming together to form a vast treasure trove. The most distinctive feature is the area's “marine-like mountain climate,” with mild springs and autumns, cool summers, and an average temperature in peak summer that is 4–5°C lower than cities like Beijing, Tianjin, and Tangshan. With fresh air and a pleasant environment, it is an ideal destination for those from busy urban areas to relax, vacation, and go on outings.

The reservoir area not only boasts beautiful natural scenery but also showcases a range of grand water conservancy projects that reflect the achievements of modern human civilization: the 1,349-meter-long, 52-meter-high dam, the massive herringbone-shaped Luanhe Water Diversion Sluice, and the impressive Luanhe Project Memorial Sculpture. As the starting point of the Luanhe-to-Tianjin and Luanhe-to-Tangshan water diversion projects, visitors marvel at the power of humanity while learning a great deal about water conservancy.
