Phoenix Mountain in Qianxi is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Phoenix Mountain is located within Xinzhen Town in the eastern part of Qianxi County, 12 kilometers from the county seat. With an elevation of 400 meters, it gets its name from its mountain shape resembling a phoenix spreading its wings to take flight. Since the Tang Dynasty, ancient temples have stood on Phoenix Mountain, and for over a thousand years, incense has burned continuously here. A large temple fair is held every year on the 19th day of the second lunar month, during which there are more than a hundred folk performance troupes and traditional art displays, making it known as the “Joyful Festival of the People.”

Phoenix Mountain has long been renowned as a sacred mountain of Buddhism and Taoism. The history of religions such as Buddhism is long-standing, with strong public interest and devotion. Putuo Zen Temple is one of the famous temples in North China, boasting a history of over a thousand years. The White Jade Guanyin statue on Phoenix Mountain has long been an object of worship for the people. The Phoenix Mountain Temple Fair, originating from Buddhist activities, is an important representation of local folk traditions in Qianxi. Not only are these fairs rich and grand in scale, but they also possess strong vitality, continuously enriching Qianxi’s tourism offerings and playing a significant role in promotion. Additionally, the vegetation coverage on Phoenix Mountain exceeds 90%.

Based on planning characteristics and the distribution of scenic spots, the core area of the scenic zone is structured with a “one axis, nine zones” layout: One Axis: The main scenic control axis from Phoenix Tower – Putuo Zen Temple – Phoenix Perching Guanyin – Phoenix Pavilion; Nine Zones: Putuo Zen Temple, Leisure Resort Zone, Phoenix Perching Guanyin Scenic Area, Administrative Office Zone, Immortal Cave Scenic Area, Mountain Peak Forest Zone, Purple Bamboo Courtyard Zone, Three Stars Hall Zone, and Jade Emperor Temple Zone.

Currently, the Putuo Zen Temple project has been initiated. This project includes four parts: the Putuo Zen Temple monastery, Lay Buddhists’ Forest, Temple Fair Square, and Phoenix Tower. Among them, the main hall of the Putuo Zen Temple has completed its primary construction. In 2009, the Phoenix Perching Guanyin project will be launched. This project combines the Buddhist cultural features of Phoenix Mountain and establishes a landmark core attraction — the Phoenix Perching Guanyin statue. The Phoenix Perching Guanyin statue stands 29 meters tall, corresponding to the birthday number of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The phoenix pedestal is 8 meters high, symbolizing the auspicious phoenix. The statue is situated on a three-tiered platform, with each tier being 3 meters high. The base platform is 69 meters wide, and the mountain path consists of 9 sections, each with 69 steps. The layered stone railings total one thousand pieces, symbolizing the Thousand-Armed Guanyin. Together, they create a beautiful scene of “immortals accompanying green mountains, clouds flowing as time changes, phoenixes calling from their homeland, and moonlight shining over the clear breeze.”
