Qian’an People’s Square

Qian’an People’s Square is located in the city center. Construction began in April 2003, and it was completed and opened to the public on May 1, 2004. Covering an area of 9.6 hectares with an investment of 40 million yuan, it is the largest, most comprehensively equipped, and fully featured square in eastern Hebei.

Guided by the design philosophy of promoting Qian’an’s historical and cultural heritage, showcasing economic and social development achievements, and creating a recreational haven for residents, the square features six distinct zones: the central gathering plaza, the children’s playground in the northeast corner, the hundred-flower garden in the northwest corner, the imagination garden in the southeast corner, the meditation garden in the southwest corner, and the colonnade and pedestrian street along the east side. The north-south axis highlights Qian’an’s profound historical and cultural roots, using raised granite platforms and 16 towering stone totem poles to depict major historical events, economic and cultural milestones, and notable figures since the ancient capital of the Yellow Emperor. The east-west axis centers around water, featuring a series of five musical fountains, cascading waters, bubbling springs, and streams that flow from higher ground to lower, from the outside in, converging toward the sunken central plaza — symbolizing the gathering of wealth and guests from all directions. This creates a warm, lively, and intimate atmosphere. Coupled with subtle terrain variations around the square, it showcases Qian’an’s distinctive character as a northern city where mountains and water complement each other with a balance of strength and grace.
