Tangshan College

Located in Tangshan City, Hebei Province — known as the cradle of China’s modern industry and often referred to as the “Treasure Land of Eastern Beijing” — Tangshan College is a public full-time undergraduate institution of higher learning with engineering as its core and a balanced development across multiple disciplines such as engineering, economics, management, literature, law, and art. Founded in 1956, it originated from the Tangshan Industrial Night University (originally the Tangshan Railway Institute, now Southwest Jiaotong University). In 1985, Southwest Jiaotong University supported the establishment of the Tangshan Branch in Tangshan through intellectual assistance. In 1996, the college began jointly offering undergraduate programs with Southwest Jiaotong University, training eight graduating classes, with the expert panel from Southwest Jiaotong University still playing an active role today. In 2002, with approval from the Ministry of Education, three institutions — Tangshan Higher Vocational College, the Tangshan Branch of Southwest Jiaotong University, and Tangshan Workers’ University — were effectively merged to form Tangshan College, a regular undergraduate institution. In December 2014, with approval from the Hebei Provincial People's Government, the Tangshan Branch of Hebei University of Science and Technology was substantively integrated into Tangshan College. In 2015, with approval from the Tangshan Municipal People's Government, the Tangshan School of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade was also substantively merged into Tangshan College.

Strong foundation and comprehensive disciplines. The college has six campuses: the main campus (No. 9 Daxue Xidao), Huayan Beilu Campus, Daxue Xidao Campus, Hebei Lu Campus, Longze Lu Campus, and Wenhuabei Houjie Campus (formerly No. 2 Middle School), covering a total area of 1,038 mu with a building area of 410,000 square meters. It comprises 20 teaching units including the School of Intelligence and Information Engineering and the School of Civil Engineering, 14 party and government administrative departments, and auxiliary teaching institutions such as the library, journal editorial department, Institute of Higher Education Development, Teaching Supervision and Evaluation Center, Modern Educational Technology Center, and Engineering Training Center. The college boasts an advanced campus network and laboratories that support specialized teaching, including the Tangshan College Invited Academician Workstation, the “Hebei Provincial Higher Education Research and Development Center for Mechatronics and Hydraulic Integration Applications,” the “Hebei Provincial Higher Education Research and Development Center for Building Engineering and Energy-saving Applications,” municipal key laboratories in “Mechatronics,” “Structures and Vibration Engineering,” “Fine Chemicals,” and “Preparation and Application of Micro-nano Materials,” and the “Information and Control Engineering Experimental Teaching Center,” which has been recognized as an Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Hebei Higher Education Institutions. Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center, Structural Laboratory, Embedded Integrated Laboratory, Automotive Training Center, Fashion Training Workshop, Interior Design Studio, Film and Media Studio, and Accounting Simulation Training Room are among the best in their categories at similar institutions. The total value of teaching instruments and equipment is 113.18 million yuan. The library houses 1.12 million volumes, 2,142 types of print journals, 4.43 million e-books, and 16,178 types of e-journals. It offers 35 undergraduate programs and several related junior college programs. The total enrollment is 19,702 students, including 14,048 full-time undergraduate and junior college students, and 3,202 adult education students.
