Immortal Rock is located 11 kilometers from Lixi Town, surrounded by mountains with uniquely towering peaks and perennially shrouded in mist. Winding up from the mountainside, the entire ancient architectural complex spans an area of 3 square kilometers. Experts who have surveyed the site have concluded that this is the most perfectly integrated cultural and natural scenic destination in Central and South China. Historical records indicate that before his defeat at Mai City, the Shu Kingdom general Guan Yu of the Three Kingdoms period once took refuge here at a mountain stronghold built by the Eastern Wu general Ding Feng and Guan Yu’s son, Guan Ping. The site features stone carvings of the Sacred Emperor Guan, the three characters “Immortal Rock” carved on the scenic area’s gate by Ma Jian, a successful candidate in the imperial examinations during the Ming Dynasty, along with a couplet reading “High are the mountains, long flows the water.” There is also a Taihu stone forest, as well as a heavenly cave, an earthly cave, hanging logs, a gun platform, an ancient bell, and the ruins of 99 stone houses. Numerous stone tablets and inscriptions within the scenic area are well preserved. Yao Xueyin, author of Li Zicheng, visited the site for research and was highly impressed by the well-preserved historical relics.

Lixi Town: Located in Dongbao District, Jingmen City, Hubei Province, Lixi Town lies in the transitional zone between the western mountainous region of Hubei and the Jianghan Plain. The town gets its name from being situated at the confluence of two streams and having a grove of chestnut trees. Lixi is an ancient town with an administrative history of over 800 years. It currently governs 25 administrative villages and 2 neighborhood committees, with a total population of 22,000 and a total area of 373.5 square kilometers, including 301.2 square kilometers of forested land.
