With Japan expanding its tax-free offerings and the yen depreciating, an increasing number of foreign tourists are visiting the country. Seizing the opportunity, Japanese convenience stores have launched tax-free services to capture a larger share of the tourism market. Since the end of 2014, when nine 7-Eleven branches introduced tax-free services, now well-known local chains FamilyMart and LAWSON have also announced their participation, offering tax-free benefits at select locations in Tokyo and Kansai.

Starting February 2015, Japanese convenience store LAWSON followed suit by launching a tax refund service, offering tax-free services at three Tokyo locations for foreign tourists: ^??徘暗辍⒕┣糯瓷?莸辍?裕希么笃榈辏?灰?郝蚴称贰⒁┳逼返嚷?煌蛉赵玻?诟犊钍背鍪净ふ眨?纯上碛忻馑坝呕荨Ａ硗猓?毡救?冶憷?痰暌泊映月底跟进, opening three tax-free stores: the 2nd floor of Kansai Airport Terminal 1, the 4th floor of Kansai Airport Terminal 1, and the Sunshine City Prince Hotel in Tokyo.

It’s worth noting that Japan’s FamilyMart convenience stores stipulate that only purchases made between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. at designated tax-free stores, and by customers who meet the Japanese government’s tax-free requirements, are eligible for the tax-free service. Additionally, any tax-free goods purchased at LAWSON or FamilyMart cannot be used or consumed within Japan.
