Jingmen Xianjuhe National Wetland Park
Jingmen Xianjuhe National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.
Xianju River originates from Shanggangu, Chaqi Village, Lixi Town, Dongbao District, Jingmen City, Hubei Province. In the upper reaches, there are three tributaries: the South River, the North River, and the Jigong River, which converge near Xianju Street, hence the name Xianju River.
The Xianju River flows southeast through Xujiaji and Xinji in Shiqiaoyi Town, and at Xiawan in Xinji Village, it meets the tributary from Heiyuchong before entering Zhongxiang City territory at Yujia Peng. It then continues southeast to Shuanghekou, where it joins the Han River.
The main course of the river downstream from Xianju is 36.5 kilometers long. Near Xianju, the riverbed elevation is 110 meters, and the flood width ranges from 40 to 60 meters. Due to its large catchment area and strong streamflow, the river experiences significant water level fluctuations, typically with a normal flow rate of 1–2 cubic meters per second and a low-flow rate of around 0.5 cubic meters per second.
The Xianju River basin is home to approximately 60,000 people and 86,200 mu of cultivated land. Before liberation, the river’s water resources were scarcely developed; heavy rains caused floods while droughts followed dry spells, leading to mostly dry-crop farming on both banks with highly unstable yields. After liberation, the local communities successively built one South River Reservoir and three small (Type I) reservoirs. Along the main river course, five river-blocking roller dams were also constructed, namely at Leigong Sluice, Zhaojia Sluice, Dingjia Sluice, Huangbao Sluice, and Xinji Sluice. These not only controlled mountain flood hazards but also regulated and expanded farmland irrigation. Additionally, three hydroelectric power stations were built, with an installed capacity of 119 kilowatts and an annual electricity generation of 269,000 kWh.
