Houcang Guandi Temple

Houcang Guandi Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

Houcang Guandi Temple is located in the hilly area of western Zhengzhou, in the northeastern part of the extension of the Songshan Mountain range. The temple faces south with its back to the north. The main hall consists of three rooms and features a flush-gable roof covered with gray tiles. The main gate is situated in the center, flanked by two square wooden windows. Seven stone tablets are preserved at the temple site. One of them is placed in the courtyard and dates back to the Republican era. The tablet’s top is inscribed with the four large characters “七次重修” (Repaired Seven Times), though the rest of the inscriptions have become illegible. Additionally, three nearly square stone tablets are embedded in the walls on either side of the main gate, and three more tablets are inlaid into the western interior wall. The seven extant tablets originate from the Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and Republican era respectively. Murals with delicate patterns, most of which have now peeled off, can also be found on the inner walls of the main hall.
