The "Snowy Plum Blossom Hunt" series of events under the Nantou Flower Carnival kicked off on December 20, 2015, marking the official start of the flower season. The plum blossom planting area in Xinyi Township spans over 800 hectares and is widely distributed. With the next cold front bringing moisture, it is estimated that the blossoms will be in full bloom from January 5 to 10. This year, due to the warmer winter, the blooming period is expected to extend all the way to before the Lunar New Year.

If you’re planning to visit Nantou for plum blossom viewing, the top four recommended plum viewing spots include Fengguidou and Wusong in Xinyi Township, as well as Niuchongkeng, along with the Zhongyuan Tribe in Ren’ai Township, all of which are highly popular among visitors.
● Fengguidou
The plum orchards in Xinyi Township cover approximately 1,500 hectares, with about 80% of the plum tree cultivation area in Fengguidou, ranging in altitude from 400 to 1,200 meters. With plum trees around 35 years old, when the harsh winter arrives, the sea of flowers on the mountains is spectacular, resembling falling snow and creating a poetic and picturesque beauty. It is not only an excellent spot for plum blossom viewing in Xinyi Township but also a renowned green plum production area across Taiwan. The favorable climate and soil have made the plum orchards in Fengguidou highly famous.

● Wusong
Besides the widely renowned Fengguidou, the nearby Wusong, at a higher altitude (around 1,000 meters), boasts even denser plum blossoms, gradually gaining fame and becoming a new plum viewing destination. The Wusong plum viewing area was originally a high-altitude forest, and after driving about two kilometers, you’ll come across vast plum orchards. Near the Wusong Forest Resort, various plum orchards are equipped with well-planned walking trails, cafes, and dining options, allowing visitors to enjoy the flowers while dining.

● Niuchongkeng
The hidden gem plum viewing spot in Niuchongkeng, the “Liu Family Plum Garden,” occasionally sees snow-white petals drifting down, as if walking along a path in a snowy wonderland. The blossoms are vibrant—pink, white, and pale green—like a sky full of snow, dreamlike and surreal. Gazing at the white plum blossoms covering the mountains is like being inside a traditional Chinese painting, where “quantity creates beauty” is fully realized. Additionally, the plum blossoms in Niuchongkeng typically bloom around Christmas and New Year’s Day, and since the blooming period is short, visitors should plan their trip early.

● Zhongyuan Tribe
The plum orchards in the Zhongyuan Tribe of Ren’ai Township consist of native species, differing from the popular Fengguidou area, with taller plum trees. The Zhongyuan Tribe mainly has two plum viewing areas: the first is located behind Huzhu Elementary School at the 3.5-kilometer mark of Route 80, where a short five-minute walk up the hillside path from the school parking lot leads to a mountain covered with majestic plum trees.
