Miaogou Site

The Miaogou Site is a cultural heritage site protected by the Zhengzhou Municipal Government.

The Miaogou Site is located in the low mountainous and hilly area of the western suburbs of Zhengzhou, in the northeastern extension of Mount Song, with the terrain sloping slightly from south to north. MaiMeiGou is a tributary of the Xushui River that originates southwest of Xiaomagou Village, flowing east and then north through Yangu, Tongshuwang, Sanwangzhuang, and Sanlizhuang, passing east and north of Xushui Village before becoming Zhaigou. Liugou is a smaller tributary of the Xushui River compared to MaiMeiGou, originating from the highlands south of Tongshuwang Village, flowing north through Tongshuwang Village, and entering the Xushui River west of Liugou Village. Miaogou Village is situated on the terrace formed by these two tributaries. Within an area 700 meters long from north to south and 250 meters wide from east to west in the northern part of the village, numerous early Western Zhou dynasty ash pits have been widely discovered. On the exposed cliff face of an abandoned soil pit in the northern part of the site, a cultural layer has been found, consisting of reddish-brown soil mixed with small amounts of plant ash and charcoal particles. The soil is relatively hard and contains a rich variety of artifacts, mainly pottery shards. The most commonly found relics include pottery li tripods, pottery basins, and roof tiles.
