Octagonal Scripture Pillar

The Octagonal Scripture Pillar is a cultural relic protected at the provincial level in Henan Province.

The Octagonal Scripture Pillar, located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, is officially named the “Pillar of the Supreme Pervasive Ultimate Treasure Scripture on the Infinite Salvation of Beings.” It has eight sides. Carved and erected in the sixth year of the Tang Dynasty’s Huichang era (846), it stands 1.6 meters tall (in its current fragmented state). The inscriptions are in regular script, carved by Wang Weidu of Taiyuan, with most characters still clearly legible. It is a precious Taoist scripture pillar. Both the Zunsheng Scripture Pillar of Zhengzhou’s Kaiyuan Temple and the Octagonal Scripture Pillar are valuable historical artifacts of the region’s religious history, holding significant historical value for the study of ancient thought and culture.
