Zhengzhou Chengwai Cheng Ceramic Art Museum

Zhengzhou Chengwai Cheng Ceramic Art Museum is currently the largest private museum in Henan Province in terms of area, exhibition completeness, and number of items, ranking among the top. In 2013, the museum received central government reward funds for free opening.

Over the years, under the correct leadership of the municipal and district governments of Zhengzhou and Zhongyuan District, and with the strong support of various relevant departments, the museum has adhered to the development philosophy of "inheriting culture, serving the public, highlighting characteristics, and innovating for development." It has preserved the ancient cultural heritage of the Central Plains well in the history of ceramic art development, and some collections have filled gaps in the province’s cultural relic heritage. The museum serves as an "Internship Base for the China Art Industry Research Institute of Shanghai University," "Teacher Internship Base for Cultural Relics Appraisal at Peking University Resources College," "Training Base for the Cultural Relics College of Beijing Oriental University," "Teaching and Training Base for the History and Culture Research Institute of Henan Education International Exchange College," "Training Base for the Ceramic Committee of Henan Collectors Association," "Research and Training Center for Ancient Ceramics of the Central Plains," and "Zhengzhou Patriotic Education Demonstration Base." In 2013, it was recognized as an advanced museum unit by the municipal government.

Museum Collection Categories

I. Yangshao Culture

The Yangshao Culture dates back 4,800–6,800 years and is the origin of ceramic culture in the Central Plains. The exhibited collections fully demonstrate the significant research and historical value of the Yangshao Culture. Our museum displays over 130 pieces of Yangshao Culture artifacts, which are extremely rare and precious.

II. Ancient Ceramic Specimens

Specimens from over 300 kilns across various historical periods in China are centralized here. They serve as important references and guides for learning, researching, and identifying ceramics. Through the display of these specimens, ceramic enthusiasts can gain a more comprehensive and concrete understanding, mastery, and judgment of the authenticity and value of ceramics. Currently, the specimen display area exceeds 1,200 square meters, with a collection of over 250,000 pieces, leading the nation by a wide margin.

III. Court Waist Drums

Tang Dynasty polychrome ceramic waist drums, used as court musical instruments, are extremely rare. Their stunning mottled patterns are captivating and mesmerizing... Here you can admire a variety of waist drums, with their colorful differences, unique shapes, and textures. Currently, the quantity and variety of waist drums in our museum rank first in the nation.

IV. Other Collections

The museum also houses a variety of items including pottery, porcelain, jade, calligraphy and paintings, bronzes, and stone tools dating from the Peiligang period over 8,000 years ago to the early 1980s.

The museum has been featured in reports by more than 30 media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily Online, Henan Daily, Zhengzhou Evening News, Zhengzhou Daily, and Zhengzhou Television Station.
