Tannli Qingning Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Qingning Temple is located to the east of Anlitun Village, Tannli Town, Wen’an County. According to the Wen’an County Annals, Qingning Temple has existed in Anlitun Village since ancient times. Local villagers say that the ancient Qingning Temple was, according to legend, first built during the Tang Dynasty. It was used as a school during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, and was completely destroyed during the Cultural Revolution, with all the Buddha statues either demolished or buried underground. The original site of the temple no longer exists.

In 2006, local Buddhist devotees decided to rebuild Qingning Temple to revitalize Buddhism in the area, bring blessings to the community, and unearthed a stone-carved Amitabha standing statue on the village land. This statue originally stood in the scripture depository of the ancient Qingning Temple, is approximately 2.9 meters tall, and is extremely rare among surviving ancient stone Buddhist statues in China, holding high cultural and historical value. At the time, it garnered widespread attention from all sectors of society. Construction of Qingning Temple began at the end of 2006 and took three and a half years, during which it received strong support from Buddhist organizations and devotees across Tianjin, Hebei, and other parts of the country.

Qingning Temple consists of a front hall, main hall, side halls, and east and west auxiliary halls. The front hall enshrines the Maitreya Bodhisattva and the guardian deity Skanda, with four large standing statues of Heavenly Kings on both sides. The main hall (the Mahavira Hall) houses a approximately 7-meter-tall seated statue of Sakyamuni Buddha at its center, carved from camphor wood, gilded on the outside, sitting cross-legged on a lotus throne, with a solemn expression. Surrounding it are many vividly crafted statues of bodhisattvas and arhats. The side hall mainly displays the 2006 unearthed stone-carved Amitabha standing statue, draped in red and exuding dignity and warmth. The east and west auxiliary halls serve as daily activity spaces, reception areas, and living quarters for Abbot Guoheng and other monks.

Qingning Temple is currently the only Buddhist temple in Wen’an County. Its establishment not only provides a place for Buddhists in Wen’an and surrounding regions to practice meditation, seek enlightenment, and promote Buddhist teachings, but also plays an important role in purifying the thoughts of local people, advancing the construction of socialist spiritual civilization, and building a harmonious society.
