Luopu Park

Luopu Park was established in 1991. Located along the Luo River on the southern side of Luoyang city, it stretches 14 kilometers from the Chanhe River estuary in the east to Xujia Camp in the west, covering a total area of 912 hectares. It includes five major scenic areas: Shangyang Palace, Tongle Garden, Hualin Garden, Ode to the Goddess of Luo, and Riverside Garden. The park is dominated by lawns and integrates embankments, terraces, and water surfaces, combining large squares, musical fountains, garden landscapes, and historical culture. It is the largest and most high-end open park in Luoyang.

Luopu Park is built along both banks of the Luo River, comprising the North Bank Scenic Area, South Bank Scenic Area, Water Surface Scenic Area, and controlled green space planning zone. The North Bank Scenic Area is 10 kilometers long, with 600,000 square meters of lawns planted, and more than 500,000 shrubs and trees. The base of the embankment is 90 meters wide, and the top is 60 meters wide, arranged from south to north as follows: a 0.9-meter-high wave protection wall, a 3-meter-wide park path, a 45-meter-wide green space, an 8.5-meter-wide flood control road, and a 3-meter-wide green belt. Beyond the embankment top is a 15.5-meter-wide slope section and a 15-meter-wide isolation belt.

The North Bank Scenic Area is divided into the Middle Section and the East Section. The East Section is themed around the 13 dynasties of ancient Luoyang’s history. Following the chronological order of history, it features 13 squares in sequence: the Xia Capital Zhenxun, the Shang Capital Xibo, the Alliance History Story, the Eastern Zhou Royal City, the Mythology Park, the Eastern Han Imperial Academy, Zhang Heng’s Three Instruments, Cai Lun’s Papermaking, the Cao Wei Technology, the Golden Valley Spring and Autumn, the Four Barbarians’ Districts, the Silk Road Journey, and Woodblock Printing.

The South Bank Scenic Area is 9 kilometers long and 70 meters wide, with the embankment top being 40 meters wide. Arranged from north to south, it consists of a 0.9-meter-high wave protection wall, a 3-meter-wide park path, a 25.5-meter-wide green space, an 8.5-meter-wide flood control road, and a 3-meter-wide green belt. Beyond the embankment top is a 1565-meter-wide slope section and a 15-meter-wide isolation belt, planted with over 60 species and more than 160,000 shrubs and trees. Its style is distinctly different from the north bank, mainly featuring mixed forests of evergreen and deciduous trees, with clusters every 300 to 500 meters. It is appropriately decorated with flowering shrubs, park paths, rest squares, and landscape ornaments. The water area of Luopu Park is expansive, including the completed Shangyang Palace Water Scenic Area and Tongle Garden Water Scenic Area, with water widths of 600 to 800 meters and a total area of 390 hectares, suitable for hosting national rowing competitions.
