The 2019 National Day fireworks display kicked off at Pingtung Riverside Park, aiming to deliver a record-breaking 42-minute show — the longest in history. To ensure precision, a 3 to 5-minute test was held on the evening of September 24 at Pingtung Riverside Park, with around 1,500 fireworks illuminating the night sky over the Gaoping River — a truly dazzling sight.
Even the 3-minute test firing on the 24th was stunningly beautiful, heightening anticipation for the main event.
It’s been 12 years since Pingtung last hosted National Day fireworks. The test firing not only checked that fallout wouldn’t affect the audience area, but also fine-tuned the placement of shells for optimal viewing angles and visual impact. Both sides of the Gaoping River — in Kaohsiung and Pingtung — will enjoy the show, but the best vantage point is from the Pingtung side, where the 400-meter-wide, spectacular fireworks design can be seen in its full glory due to the shell launch zone’s location. The viewing angle here is the most direct and impressive.
Preparations are underway to deliver the most breathtaking National Day fireworks on October 10.
This year’s National Day fireworks plan includes over 16,000 shells, reaching heights of up to 200 meters and spanning 400 meters in width. The shell layout features a depth of about 30 meters, with a mix of high and low bursts creating layers of visual splendor. Drawing inspiration from Taiwan Lantern Festival’s Intel drone show, a custom musical composition has been created, to be performed live by the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, delivering a feast for both eyes and ears.
Those planning to witness the beautiful fireworks show in person should pay attention to traffic controls to ensure a smooth visit.
Riverside Park can accommodate 100,000 to 130,000 spectators. On the day, surrounding road sections will be under traffic control. The county government has planned transport shuttle services, with 6 parking lots, 5 free shuttle bus routes, 4-tiered controls, 3 shuttle points, and 2 major transit stations. Spectators are advised to take the shuttle buses to the venue.
The 6 major parking lots offer a total of 4,500 car spaces and 25,000 motorcycle spaces, located at:
1. Dawu (Dawu Barracks) — 1,600 car spaces
2. Datong (Datong High School) — 2,500 motorcycle spaces
3. Daqing (Daqing Industrial Park) — 7,500 motorcycle spaces
4. Industrial Park (Pingtung Second Generation Export Processing Zone) — 2,500 car spaces
5. [Airport North Road] along Ping 42 (from Datong Road to Shengli Road) — 6,000 motorcycle spaces
6. [Levee Road] along County Highway 189 (from Provincial Highway 3 to Nanyi Airport) — 400 car spaces + 9,000 motorcycle spaces.

Five free shuttle bus routes will run from 14:30 to 23:30, with a frequency of every 10–15 minutes. Shuttle service toward the event venue will stop after 7:30 p.m. Routes include:

3. P2 Datong + Airport North Road Shuttle
4. P3 Daqing + P4 Industrial Park
5. Levee Road (County Highway 189)
