Tour Guide: Shi Chong was a famously wealthy man. Competing with the noble landlord Wang Kai to show off his riches, he built the Golden Valley Villa, also known as the “Golden Valley Garden.” The garden was grand in scale, with terraces and ponds constructed along the terrain, pavilions and towers that complemented the shimmering waters of the pools. Shi Chong sent people to the South Sea Islands to trade silk fabrics, needles, copper, and ironware for valuable items such as pearls, agates, amber, rhinoceros horns, and ivory, adorning the villas within the garden with dazzling splendor. The scenery of the Golden Valley Garden has been celebrated through the ages. Especially in the sunny days of March, with lush trees, tall bamboos, clusters of pear blossoms, bright peach blooms, swaying willow branches, and a riot of colorful flowers, the garden resembles a heavenly palace.
