The museum is a site-based museum built on the original location of the significant 21st-century archaeological discovery—the "Zhou Kings' Six-Horse Chariots" large-scale chariot-and-horse burial pit. The pit is massive in scale, featuring a variety of chariot types arranged neatly and impressively. The Museum of the Zhou Kings' Six-Horse Chariots, with its exquisite cultural relics and the spectacular real-scene display of the chariot pit, presents to the world the ancient capital Luoyang’s profound urban construction history from the BC era and its splendid material culture.

The Museum of the Zhou Kings' Six-Horse Chariots in Luoyang is located in the northeastern part of the Eastern Zhou Royal City ruins area within Wangcheng Square in the city center. The entire museum covers an area of over 1,700 square meters and is divided into two exhibition areas. The first exhibition area mainly displays archaeological findings of the Eastern Zhou Royal City and royal tombs, as well as some cultural relics from the Eastern Zhou period. The second exhibition area showcases two of the seventeen chariot pits unearthed during the archaeological excavation of Wangcheng Square. The northern “Zhou Kings' Six-Horse Chariots” pit is the largest chariot pit discovered in Luoyang to date. It is 42.6 meters long, 7.4 meters wide, and 2.2–2.7 meters deep from the surface. The pit is well-preserved. Inside, there are 26 chariots and 70 identifiable horse skeletons. In addition to the chariots and horses, there are also seven buried dogs and one buried human. The chariots in the pit are arranged in two longitudinal rows, facing south with their tails to the north, resembling an orderly and majestic procession. Among them, the relic of a six-horse-drawn chariot confirms the authenticity of the ancient textual record of the “Zhou Kings' Six-Horse Chariots,” providing physical evidence for the study of the carriage system during the Shang and Zhou dynasties.
