Driven by numerous favorable factors, various industries in Henan have undergone rapid and remarkable changes in recent years. The vast 800-li Funiu Mountain range is a land of natural beauty and talented people. The magical forces of nature over millennia have given birth to the Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort, a dazzling pearl in the tourism industry. The establishment of the Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort has not only injected fresh energy into the sports and entertainment industry market in the Central Plains, bringing new vitality and marking a new path where Luoyang’s tourism, sports, entertainment, commerce, and real estate sectors are integrating and developing together, but it has also enriched winter tourism options in Henan, filled the gap in ski tourism, and pioneered ski tourism in the Central Plains region.

Funiu Mountain is the most famous mountain range in Henan Province in terms of average altitude and distribution area. It also has the largest forested area, highest forest coverage, greatest timber volume, and richest diversity of flora and fauna in the province. Stretching 400 kilometers from east to west, it is commonly referred to as the “800-li Funiu.” The Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort is located on the northern slope of Laojieling in the Funiu Mountain range, with the mountaintop at an altitude of 2100 meters. The base of the ski resort (mountain foot) is at an altitude of around 1700 meters, situated in Yangshuping Village, Shimiao Township, Luanchuan County—the highest-altitude administrative village in Henan Province. The ski resort covers an area of 6 square kilometers. The northern slope of Laojieling extends downward from a circular ridge into three mountain ridges and four relatively wide valleys, all converging at a spacious area at the mountain foot. The terrain is highly suitable for winter skiing as well as grass and water-based leisure activities in spring, summer, and autumn. With over 150 days of sub-zero nighttime temperatures in winter, the mountain ensures a sufficiently long skiing season. The stunning alpine scenery, excellent forest vegetation, and abundant surface water resources not only meet the needs for snowmaking and daily water use but also provide a unique natural advantage for year-round dynamic tourism activities. The geographical and climatic conditions of Yangshuping fully satisfy the four essential criteria for building a ski resort: low temperatures, abundant surface water, good hillside vegetation, and suitable mountain terrain.

The first phase of the Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort project had a total investment of 45 million yuan. The entire project will be completed in three phases, with a planned total investment of 150 million yuan. Once fully completed, the ski resort will become a leisure destination integrating year-round dynamic activities such as skiing, ice skating, water skiing, grass skiing, hang gliding, and dry tobogganing, along with supporting services like accommodation, dining, and conferences. It will fully leverage the area’s superior natural resources to establish a top-tier tourist attraction with world-class service facilities. In winter, visitors can immerse themselves in this silver world, fully experience the charm of ice and snow, appreciate the beauty and spirit of nature, and enjoy the thrill of gliding. Grass and water-based activities offer equally exciting experiences in other seasons.

The Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort is equipped with a full range of entertainment facilities and enjoys convenient transportation. A dedicated scenic route—the Shiyang Highway—stretches 18 kilometers with an 8-meter width and a gradient under 8%, winding up from Luanchuan County all the way to the resort. Within the ski resort, there is an 8-kilometer-long, 8-meter-wide sightseeing path with a slope of less than 8%, meandering uphill along the mountain contours. Along the way, rugged cliffs, flowing streams, dense forests, and elegant bamboo compete in beauty, with continuous valleys offering breathtaking scenery at every turn. The mountains are adorned with colorful foliage trees: expanses of Japanese larch stand tall with golden brilliance, while lush Huashan pines and oaks create a vibrant, emerald sea of layered forests. The highland park, situated amid the surrounding mountains, features peaks that embody the qualities of “grandeur, openness, wildness, and serenity.” Some peaks rise steeply and desolately; others are gently sloping, elegant, and tranquil. Strolling through the scenic area, you’ll find blue skies and drifting clouds above, pristine snow and gentle streams below—a journey into a beautiful fairy-tale world. The mountain vegetation here is in excellent condition, with high forest coverage and diverse plant communities. The rich plant life and pristine ecological environment provide optimal conditions for alpine tourism. The superior landform offers exceptional natural advantages for tourism in spring, summer, and autumn. The area boasts 89.1% forest coverage, with dominant tree species including eight types of pines and oaks, forming an expansive, boundless “forest oxygen bar” that offers dust removal, sterilization, disinfection, and noise reduction benefits, creating a serene and restorative environment for visitors.

Chinese people love snow, but they have not yet developed a unique skiing culture; Central Plains residents love snow, but they lack a captivating ski resort of their own. We invested in building the Luoyang Funiu Mountain Ski Resort to promote skiing culture in the Central Plains, explore the development of the tourism and leisure industry from a new perspective, and provide visitors with a high-quality winter leisure destination.

Transportation: 1. From Luoyang to Luanchuan Expressway: 155 km. Follow Junshan Road in front of Junshan Square in Luanchuan, continue for 7 km to Shimiao Township, then turn left 18 km before entering Shimiao Street to reach the dedicated ski resort access road. 2. Zhengzhou–Luoyang Expressway: 130 km. (1) Exit at Luoyang East Station, head south onto Jiudu Road, then west onto Jiefang Road, turn left onto Mudan Bridge to access the Luoluan Expressway, leading directly to Luanchuan. (2) Exit at Luoyang West Station, drive south past Mudan Bridge onto the Luoluan Expressway. 3. From Sanmenxia via Lingbao, Lushi, and Sanchuan to Shimiao Township, Luanchuan: turn right after passing through Shimiao Street, 160 km in total. 4. From Xuchang (Pingdingshan) via Lushan, Checun, and Heyu to Luanchuan: 230 km. 5. From Nanyang via Nanzhao and Xixia to Luanchuan: 200 km.
