At the end of Dicui River in the national AAAA-level scenic area of Chongdugou, flanking a rushing stream that cascades through woods and over rocks, are winding corridors draped in ivy; rustic earthen-walled cottages with thatched roofs; quaint farmsteads tucked among emerald bamboo groves and blooming peach and plum trees; a water-powered mill churning out thick, white soybean milk; an old distillery exuding the aroma of liquor; a swiftly spinning pottery wheel; open country paths where incense smoke rises thick from temples; and field ridges dotted with bright wildflowers like golden "needles." Scholars in long robes and scholar's jackets stroll alongside elders and village girls in short-sleeved coarse cloth garments — a vivid scene of a mountain village in western Henan during the 1920s. This is the only operational folk culture scenic area in China showcasing the mountain life of the Republican era — Haiming Agrarian and Folk Culture Village. The site features a collection of traditional local handicraft workshops: old-style taverns, oil mills, pottery workshops, tofu shops, weaving yards, straw sandal workshops, blacksmith forges, and rope-making areas. These traditional industries of western Henan are presented to visitors with authentic operations, allowing them to take part in the production of unique travel souvenirs. Especially notable are the pure grain liquors brewed at the old tavern, bottled in earthenware crafted at the pottery workshop, making them a premium gift for family and friends.

A showcase of traditional local folk entertainment: high-altitude lion performances on ropes, a folk story spectacle. On a six-square-meter stage atop a 20-meter-high pole, two large and two small lions perform simultaneously — a true marvel of Central Plains culture. Other folk performances include “chicken calling,” stick fighting, “walking the 3-6-9,” “bull suffocation,” swing rides, and magic shows, offering a dazzling array of traditional amusements.

A presentation of traditional local dietary culture: The bamboo-constructed “Wolf Wears a Hat” Farmhouse Restaurant can accommodate over 200 guests and offers dozens of seasonal farm-style dishes, ranking first in Chongdugou. Especially popular are the “Wolf Wears a Hat” steamed buns, “Dog Branches,” pea cakes, thick grain porridge, noodle flag soup, and tofu pudding. Rural hosting styles such as “Eight Bowls and Four Plates” or “Eight Main Dishes and Four Side Dishes” are highly favored by visitors. Here, only natural ingredients are used: homemade alkali, sauces, vinegar, and seasonings. The pesticide-free vegetable garden is just steps away, allowing visitors to pick and eat fresh produce. Cooking and dining utensils are mostly made of bamboo and wood, with iron or ceramic used only when essential — this is a true exhibition and tasting venue for regional food culture.

A display of traditional local customs: Upon entering the scenic area, visitors must exchange their RMB for currency from the Republican era to make purchases; they can also dress in period attire. Traditional wedding performances allow visitors to relive marriage ceremonies and rediscover the romance of days gone by.

Scenic Spot Transportation

At Luoyang Jinyuan Bus Station, there are direct buses to Chongdugou. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Luanchuan Antai Travel Agency for chartered services or catch a bus there, with fares not exceeding ¥10 per person. From Zhengzhou, take the Zhengshao Expressway to Yichuan North, exit the expressway, then follow the Luoluan Expressway to Chongdugou.
