Yangzhuang Site in Zhugudong

The Yangzhuang Site in Zhugudong is a cultural heritage protection unit of Henan Province.

The Yangzhuang Site in Zhugudong is located to the south of Yangzhuang Village Group, Qin Zhuang Village, Zhugudong Township, Yicheng District, Zhumadian City. To the north is a cement road, across which lies Yangzhuang Village. The 107 National Road is 500 meters to the east, and the high-speed railway is 1 kilometer to the west. The site is situated on a small terrace on the southern bank of a tributary of the Lianhe River, with an oval shape measuring 300 meters from north to south and 220 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 66,000 square meters.

- Through surveys and explorations, it was found that the Yangzhuang Site in Zhugudong has a cultural layer 2.7 meters thick, rich in content, including large amounts of red-fired soil, plant ash, and broken pottery shards. Collected samples include pottery fragments and stone tools. The pottery is made of three types of material: clay, clay mixed with sand, and clay mixed with clamshell. Pottery colors include red, black, and gray; decorations are mostly plain, along with basket patterns, string patterns, perforations, and added ridge patterns. Identifiable vessel shapes include tripods, cauldrons, and basins. Stone tools include stone knives and stone axes. Based on the shapes and decorative features, the site is considered to be a remnant from the Longshan Culture period of the Neolithic Age.

The Yangzhuang Site in Zhugudong was discovered during the second national cultural relics survey in 1984, and was designated as part of the fifth batch of Henan Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the Henan Provincial People's Government on June 16, 2008. The discovery of this site holds certain value for the study of the Longshan Culture of the Neolithic Age in Zhumadian City.
