The Damu Temple Ruins

The Damu Temple Ruins are a cultural tourism attraction.

The Damu Temple Ruins are located south of Damu Temple Village in Matou Town, approximately 25 kilometers northeast of Taikang County, covering an area of about 500 square meters. In 1989, they were designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection site by the Taikang County People’s Government.

There was originally a temple on the site, which housed a large bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, hence the name Damu Temple. The village behind the temple was also named Damu Temple Village.

The original site was quite prominent but is now arable land. Few relics have been found, with only six pottery fragments collected from areas rich in ash soil. Among them, three belong to the Longshan Culture and three to the Spring and Autumn Period. The pottery consists of clay gray ware and clay red ware, with decorative patterns including basket weave and fine cord impressions.

Current condition: heavily damaged.

Protected area: The core protected zone centers around an underground cylindrical white lime marker (1.5 meters deep) at the heart of the ruins, extending 15 meters east and west, and 13 meters north and south. The general protected zone extends 10 meters outward from the boundary of the core protected zone.

Matou Town: Located at the junction of two cities (Zhoukou and Shangqiu) and three counties (Taikang, Suixian, and Zhecheng), Matou Town in Taikang County governs 55 administrative villages, 137 natural villages, 102,000 mu of arable land, and has a population of 84,000. In 2001, the town’s total industrial and agricultural output value reached 460 million yuan, fiscal revenue was 3.842 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 1,998 yuan.

In 1999, the town’s Party Committee was named a “Six-Good Township Party Committee” by Zhoukou City; in 2001, it was awarded the titles of “Six-Good Township Party Committee” and “Advanced Unit in Ideological and Political Work” by the Zhoukou Municipal Party Committee. 200… More detailed information about Matou Town++
