A 39-year-old from Humen, Chen Jianxin has nearly 15 years of experience in outdoor hiking. On April 8 of this year, after boarding a minibus alone from Cangyuan County, Lincang City, Yunnan to Zhenkang County, he lost contact with his family.

On April 29, his younger brother Chen Jianlun came to Zhenkang County to search for him, having checked nearly every local guesthouse, hotel, hospital, and bus station, but still found no clues. Chen Jianlun said that if anyone could provide relevant information leading to his brother, he would be willing to pay 10,000 yuan as a reward.

Man goes missing after hiking in Yunnan

Chen Jianlun said, "My brother has always loved outdoor hiking and had nearly 15 years of hiking experience. After quitting his job, he saw in a QQ group that someone was organizing a hiking trip to Lincang, Yunnan, so he joined the activity."

An organizer who wished to remain anonymous said, "The activity was scheduled from April 1 to April 7, mainly to go out and have fun during the Qingming Festival."

On the afternoon of April 1, Chen Jianxin gathered with 13 other hikers in Lincang City, Yunnan. When he set off, he had short hair, was 1.7 meters tall, carried a large orange waterproof backpack, and spoke with a strong Cantonese accent.

By April 7, 12 of the hikers had returned home as planned. Chen Jianxin chose to stay. According to fellow hikers, at that time, he planned to go to Nanjiang Town in Zhenkang County and head to Ruili around the 13th to see the "Water Splashing Festival."

On April 8, after boarding the minibus to Nanjiang Town, Chen Jianxin lost contact with his family and friends. To date, he has been missing for a month.

Younger brother searches for ten days without results

"On April 4, my father called to ask if he was coming home for the Qingming ancestral worship. My brother said he planned to stay in Yunnan a few more days," said Chen Jianlun. "That was the last time my brother contacted our family."

It is understood that Chen Jianxin had an optimistic personality and was relatively rational in his actions. "When he went to Yunnan, he wasn’t facing any setbacks at work or in his personal life," said Chen Jianlun. "But he had never gone more than half a month without contacting his family."

Because their brother was a seasoned hiker with over 10 years of experience, the family initially wasn’t too worried. But by April 29, there was still no news from Chen Jianxin, and his phone remained switched off.

After discussion, Chen Jianlun, along with a cousin and two of Chen Jianxin’s close friends, flew to Yunnan to search for him.

After arriving in Cangyuan County and Nanjiang Town, Chen Jianlun searched nearly every hotel, guesthouse, hospital, and bus station—places with high foot traffic—but found nothing.

At the China-Myanmar border in Nanjiang Town, a local woman who runs a photo booth said she had seen Chen Jianxin but didn’t know where he went afterward. A hiker who traveled with him previously mentioned that Chen Jianxin had expressed a desire to visit Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Chen Jianlun sought help from the local public security authorities in Lincang. It is understood that the police have launched an investigation.

If you have seen Chen Jianxin or know his whereabouts, please call 13622623300. If you can provide relevant clues leading to Chen Jianxin, Chen Jianlun is willing to pay 10,000 yuan as a reward.

  Outdoor Travel Precautions

A hiker with over ten years of outdoor travel experience said that when traveling, the following points should be noted:

First, try to avoid traveling alone. If you must travel solo, update your specific itinerary daily on your QQ status.

Second, avoid high-risk places such as casinos and adult entertainment venues.

Third, don’t wear overly unconventional clothing that draws attention.

Fourth, avoid speaking carelessly, as your accent may reveal where you’re from.

Fifth, don’t flaunt wealth, such as wearing gold rings or necklaces.

Sixth, avoid hailing random private cars or hitchhiking; opt for local public transportation instead.

Seventh, before setting off, search online for your destination and thoroughly understand the local weather, natural disasters, security conditions, and other factors.

Eighth, bring some self-defense items, such as a small knife, stun baton, or pepper spray.

Ninth, equip yourself with essential survival tools, such as a whistle and a high-powered flashlight, to help send out distress signals.

Tenth, it's best to carry a walkie-talkie to facilitate communication among fellow travelers, and it can also serve to deter others by showing you’re not traveling alone.
