Free attractions in Tainan! 5-color rice fields create the "Gudetama Painted Field" – super cute from the air

The annual Tainan Good Rice Season painted rice field event has moved to the Liuying Taikang Organic Agriculture Area for the first time this year. This year, it’s even more special with authorization from Japan’s Sanrio, featuring a 5-color "Gudetama Painted Rice Field" that’s set to debut on October 8.

The Tainan Good Rice Season has now entered its fifth year, and the rice field art has been loved by the public every year. This year, the Tainan City Government Agriculture Bureau obtained authorization from Japan’s Sanrio, using five colors of colored rice—purple, white, yellow, green, and black—to create a 1.2-hectare “Gudetama.” From an aerial view, you can already see Gudetama’s signature lazy pose.

It takes 110 days for the colored rice to fully grow, and around 70 days in, the design and colors of the rice field will be at their best. The “2016 Tainan Good Rice Season” kicks off on October 8—don’t miss your chance to see Gudetama’s cute form among the rice plants.
