China's No. 1 Village for Tiger Paintings — Wanggongzhuang Village, Beiguan Town, Minquan County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, is located along the old course of the Yellow River, at the junction of Henan and Shandong provinces. It lies 15 kilometers east of the former residence site of Zhuangzi, the master of literature and philosophy, and 21 kilometers west of the hometown of Jiang Yan, a literary figure from the Southern Dynasties. The village enjoys convenient transportation. It has a total of 1,377 mu of arable land and a population of 1,366 people, of whom 800 are engaged in the painting industry. The village is home to numerous husband-and-wife painters, father-and-son painters, sister-and-sister painters, and multi-generational painting families. Villagers mainly specialize in meticulous-style tiger paintings, but also create artworks featuring figures, flowers and birds, landscapes, and more, offering a wide variety. The village has inspired and driven thousands of farmers across two provinces and three counties to engage in or trade farmer paintings, forming a community of farmer painters with Wanggongzhuang as the leading hub. Beiguan Town alone has over 1,500 such painters.
