Shengan Shelterbelt

The Shengan Shelterbelt is located in the hinterland of the old course of the Yellow River in the northern part of Minquan County, 8 kilometers from the county seat. Established in 1950, it is an important component of the renowned shelterbelt system in eastern Henan and ranks among the top four plain shelterbelts in China and the top ten in Asia. Stretching over 20 kilometers from east to west and 2 to 4 kilometers from north to south—from Shenji in Chengzhuang Town in the west to Ganzhuang Village in Chengguan Town in the east—the belt was twice showcased during national plain afforestation conferences in the 1970s and 1980s. It has hosted visits by national leaders, prominent domestic and international figures, forestry experts, and scholars, earning a high reputation. It has been hailed by forestry experts at home and abroad as the “Green Great Wall” on the old course of the Yellow River. Currently, the shelterbelt has a standing timber volume of 130,000 cubic meters, with an annual growth of 10,000 cubic meters, and a forest coverage rate of 75%. The area hosts over 100 plant species and 180 terrestrial animal species, including more than 10 listed as nationally protected wildlife. In recent years, Minquan County has leveraged the resource advantages of the “Shengan Shelterbelt” to actively apply for national forest park status, intensify the development of eco-tourism, and fully launch the construction of the Shengan Shelterbelt Eco-Tourism Base. The goal is to develop the shelterbelt into the largest eco-tourism park in eastern Henan, featuring a sizable botanical garden, flower garden, premium orchard, and amusement park.
