The Zhaojin Hall

The Zhaojin Hall is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Zhaojin Hall is located in Wenfeng District, Anyang City, and now stands on the site of Anyang No. 5 Middle School. It was built by Han Qi, a renowned statesman of the Northern Song Dynasty, as a place for his personal cultivation and leisure. At the time, the Zhaojin Hall was one of the four most famous gardens in China. Han Qi spent his later years here and passed away in Xiangzhou (present-day Anyang) in 1075 AD. In 1702, the Zhaojin Hall was renamed Zhaojin Academy, from which numerous scholars and literati emerged, including many notable figures. By the late Qing Dynasty, the academy was renamed Zhaojin School, becoming the site of one of the earliest secondary education institutions in the Central Plains. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the site was renamed Anyang No. 5 Middle School in 1958.
