Era: Spring and Autumn Period to Northern and Southern Dynasties

The ancient city of Nanwucheng, also known as Wucheng, Nancheng, or Nancheng, is located within the territory of Weizhuang Township in Pingyi County. It lies 35 kilometers north of Pingyi County seat. Within the site are two natural villages: Nanwucheng and Beiwucheng. To the northwest and south, the site is flanked by natural barriers including Cangshan Mountain, Nancheng Mountain, and Kaiming Mountain, while to the east and north, there are rammed earth walls forming a semi-circular city wall. Chinese historical records contain rich accounts of Nanwucheng. It is not only famous for producing eminent Confucian scholars such as Tantai Mieming and Zeng Shen, but also for being the site of many significant historical events that are mentioned in numerous classic historical works. In May 2013, the ruins of the ancient city of Nanwucheng in Pingyi County, along with other heritage sites such as those in Fei County, were designated as part of the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council.
