Longtan in Baoding

Longtan is located in Mancheng District, Baoding City. The area features a unique climate with a vegetation coverage rate of 98%. In summer, the highest temperature does not exceed 23°C; in winter, surrounded by mountains, temperatures generally stay between -1°C and 3°C, earning it the reputation of being "like spring even in the coldest days." Its natural landscape is distinctive within Hebei Province, resembling the karst topography of Guilin, and is known as the "Little Guilin of the North."

Longtan is formed by the convergence of natural springs, stretching 2.5 kilometers in length. Winding like a giant dragon, it is thus named "Longtan" (Dragon Pool). It is also called "Lei Xi River," as the water flowing down from upstream is said to be as constant and powerful as thunder throughout the year. To this day, the large rocks still bear inscriptions of "Lei Xi" carved during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong era. Nestled between two mountains, Longtan is set in a deep valley with clear waters and lush surroundings. The downstream section features a wide body of water with depths reaching 20 meters and naturally formed diving platforms. Looking up from downstream, one can see the water cascading down like a waterfall, presenting a spectacular sight.

The Longmen Lake upstream of Longtan boasts a vast expanse of water surrounded by mountains, offering a uniquely beautiful scene of lake and mountain scenery. In summer, visitors can enjoy boating on the expansive blue waters, adding to the natural charm. The scenic area formed by Longtan and Longmen Lake is a natural destination for tourism, sightseeing, and summer retreats.
