Ruins of the Di City in Gaoqing

The ruins of the Di City in Gaoqing are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.

The ruins of the Di (Huo) City are located in the northwest corner of Gaocheng Town. The eastern part of the ruins overlaps with the northwest area of Gaocheng, while the southern edge follows the road leading out of Xiguan. Today, the hospital and the grain depot are both situated within the ruins. Three natural villages—Chen Yao, Xin Jia, and Chengbei Liu—are located near the southwest, northwest, and northeast of the ruins, respectively. The site stretches 1,030 meters from east to west and 680 meters from north to south. The Di City served as the capital of the Namuan State from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the early Spring and Autumn Period. From the Qin to the Sui Dynasties, it functioned as the seat of a commandery or county, but was abolished by the end of the Sui Dynasty. In the early years of the Republic of China, remnants of the city walls were still visible. By the 1950s, only a row of earthen mounds remained. In 1978, during land leveling, a large number of pottery shards were exposed.
