Zibo Botanical Garden

Zibo Botanical Garden, originally named Zhangdian Botanical Garden, is located at the southwest corner of the intersection between Nanxiwu Road and Wangshe Road in Zhangdian District. Established in 2000, the garden underwent a comprehensive upgrade from 2010 onward with an investment of 50 million yuan by the municipal government, transforming it into a major public park characterized primarily by horticultural plants. The project included the development of approximately 310,000 square meters of green space, planting 2,706 new trees, 12,886 bamboo plants, 61,542 shrubs, and 105,530 aquatic plants. It also involved transplanting 9,215 existing trees, 3,221 shrubs, 8,345 square meters of ground cover, and 201,466 square meters of lawn. The site features around 24,000 square meters of squares and parking areas, and about 900 square meters of wooden boardwalks. Designed mainly with plant landscaping, the garden includes over ten specialized gardens such as the Peony Garden and Lotus Garden. Existing plants were preserved or relocated, while many perennial plants, flowers, and ground covers were added. Multiple activity squares and various small garden spaces were introduced, along with new benches, waterfront platforms, children’s sandpits, and boat docks. The irrigation and lighting systems within the garden were redesigned to enhance public accessibility. The original water area was upgraded, transforming the rigid lakeshore into a more natural outline, reducing artificial elements, and emphasizing natural aesthetics. Aquatic plants were planted along the water's edge to aid in self-purification of the lake. The water surface expanded from 6.5 hectares to 8 hectares, and the lake was connected to the Yulong River, turning previously stagnant water into flowing water. After renovation, the artificial lake now covers approximately 8 hectares, with a revitalized shoreline that adds visual depth. Along the lake, attractions such as waterfront platforms, boat docks, boardwalks, activity beaches, and large lawns have been arranged, creating a vibrant lakeside experience. A culvert was excavated to connect the internal lake of the botanical garden with the Yulong River, ensuring a continuous flow of water throughout the garden’s water system and integrating it with the urban water network.
